As you know from the post about remission on Jack's Journey, the Bailey's have a L-O-N-G road ahead of them. And as friends of the family, we want to be there every step of the way, right? There really is strength in numbers, and drawing on our strength enables Anneli and Damond to best support Jack and his recovery.
Not having to worry about dinner after a long day of chemotherapy or a long day at work, making sure Emma gets some special attention, and being ready on a moments notice to mobilize and organize should Jack end up in the hospital with a fever/low blood cell count are some ways that we can continue to help.
In addition, a lot people have asked about raising funds to benefit the Bailey family. Many costs related to cancer treatment are not covered by insurance, such as lost wages and costly co-pays for drugs and office visits. Assisting with these expenses would definitely ease one of the many burdens Damond and Anneli feel right now.
The purpose of this post is to request fund raising suggestions and also begin to organize those who want to help in this manner. Please use the "Comments" feature below this post to suggest fund raising ideas. E-mail me at careymerrill@yahoo.com to volunteer to plan/assist with planning an event.
Since many FOTBF also want to give back to the organizations that do so much for families battling blood cancer, down the road we will post information about upcoming opportunities to also support The Valerie Fund at Saint Barnabas, where Jack is receiving such outstanding care, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education, and patient services.
Prayers, positive thoughts, and well wishes are so very much appreciated by the family, but there is so much we can actually DO, too. Thanks in advance for posting your ideas!
